Christmas Eve

This year is a first for us because we stayed home on Christmas Eve and didn't visit any extended family. While we certainly missed seeing family and it was an adjustment to be on our own, it was nice to have a relaxing day to ourselves and I know it will be nice to be in our own home on Christmas morning.

We had a low key day and then went to the family service at church this afternoon. On the way in to church Lila yelled, "Daddy, hurry up! We're going to a birthday party for Jesus!". And they did, in fact, have the kids sing Happy Birthday to Jesus and had a birthday cake. Lila loved it! Cara slept through church and Lila was very well behaved. Ian sang one song with the middle schoolers and did a great job.

After church we had dinner and everyone got to open one present--new pjs to wear tonight. Unfortunately, Cara took a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time to go down tonight so our evening was not quite as cozy and relaxing as I'd hoped. But...

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born
Merry Christmas everyone!

Christmas is Coming

I am copying from Beth again this year and chronicling the girls' Christmas outfits. Lila also had a reindeer sweater dress that she wore on Sunday, but the cow costume covered it so I didn't get a picture of it. Cara had a third Christmas onesie, but she is quite a spitter and that outfit didn't last long on Monday.

It's a little hard to see, but Cara's onesie has a stocking on it and Lila's shirt says Good Things Come in Small Packages.

Girls Night Out

Lila and I had a girls night out tonight to go see The Princess and the Frog. It was Lila's first movie and she loved it. She was wide eyed the entire time and was very well behaved. She loved the big girl experience of sitting in a theater seat, eating popcorn and drinking lemonade. About 10 minutes before the movie was over she leaned over to me and whispered, "I love you." Made my night!!
The movie was VERY cute. I recommend it even if you aren't taking a 2 year old along with you, especially if you're a Disney fan because there were lots of nods to other movies within this one.

Christmas Pageant

Today was our church's Christmas pageant. Lila and the other two year olds were stable animals. Ian sang two songs with the middle schoolers. Both kids did a great job!

Lila was a cow and she was SO excited!

And, the stable animals had the best part because they got to eat animal crackers through the ENTIRE pageant.

We decided just to put a little excerpt on the blog, but let us know if you're interested in seeing more!

Some Funnies

Lila is at the stage where she talks ALL.THE.TIME about whatever she's thinking or doing. While it can be draining, it is very entertaining to be inside the mind of a 2 year old. Some highlights:

My friends Shannon and Emily came over to visit on Thursday night and Lila walked up to Shannon and said, "Oh, I LOVE your ring!".

Cara was crying and Lila said to me, "Mommy, Cara is crying. What are you doing to her?"

Yesterday she told me, "I found a little piece of cookie in my highchair from yesterday. I know it's gross but I ate it anyway." (My house is clean, I swear!)

**Disclaimer: I find bathroom/potty talk hilarious, if you don't you won't think this next one is funny.** Lila said, "I have a little bottom so I need to use my little potty seat. Nana has a big bottom so she uses the big potty. Mommy has a big bottom so she uses the big potty too. Daddy has a big bottom and uses the big potty seat, but only when he goes poopy. When he goes pee pee he squeezes his bottom and pee pee comes out."

First Real Bath

Cara's umbilical cord FINALLY fell off today and she got to take a real bath. Way more fun than a sponge bath!

Sisters

Cara was laying on her blanket this afternoon so Lila put her Bitty Baby down next to her. Then, Lila decided to lay down too. So cute!

Lila loves her little sister!

Snow!

We got some snow last night and as soon as Lila saw it this morning she wanted to go play in it. I convinced her to wait until after nap, but by that time a lot of it had melted. She had fun though.

Very excited about the snow!

But once she got out there she wasn't sure what to do, she kept looking at me and shrugging her shoulders.

Tummy Time

Isn't her little bottom cute?

A Visit with Santa

We took the girls to go see Santa yesterday. Thankfully, it went much better than last year. Lila took a few minutes to warm up to Santa, but once she did she was happy to stand by him and have her picture taken. She told Santa that she wanted toys and a Thomas Train that she can ride for Christmas!

Christmas Card Outtakes

I attempted to take pictures of Lila for our Christmas card, but unfortunately I didn't get any that were card-worthy. Mainly, because Lila only wanted to stand by the tree if she could pose next to the Mike Wazowski ornament.

Lila and Mike
After I gave up on taking pictures, Lila carried Mike around with her all day and even took a nap with him. It was just like being in the movie because she kept saying "Mike Wazowski!" over and over.
