The Swings

Cara went on the swings at the park for the first time yesterday and loved it!

Lila always loves the swing!

Buffalos

Lila is obsessed with buffalos. It is a very strange animal for a 3 year old to be obsessed with and I have no idea how it started, but she is. She even says that she is a buffalo. Several months ago an elderly man at church asked what her name was and she answered, "Buffalo!" Then, last week, we had new cleaning people at the house and when one asked Lila her name she said, "Well, my animal name is Buffalo, but my real name is Lila."

Our local zoo just finished a huge, new bear exhibit and in the process also added a bison exhibit (I'm calling them buffalos, does anyone really know the difference?!?) and Lila has been SO excited for it to open. It opened on the 8th and we went for the first time yesterday and Lila loved it! When we saw the buffalos she went running up to them yelling, "Hi buffalos! I'm a buffalo too! I love you!" It was so cute.

And another bright side for Lila is that the new gift shop next to the bear and bison exhibits had a stuffed buffalo. That is a very difficult animal to find so of course I bought it for her.

No pictures because there were at least 50 buses of field trips at the zoo yesterday, seriously, so just seeing the exhibits was all we could manage.

Where Does the Time Go?

Cara is sitting up! She doesn't always lean so far forward, but she was trying to play with her blocks and wasn't real thrilled about having her picture taken. She loves being able to sit because it is so much easier to watch what Ian and Lila are doing!

Cara had her six month check yesterday (it was rescheduled from last week) and weighed in at 14 lbs 14 oz. That's 8 oz LESS than Lila weighed at 6 months, but Cara is almost a full two inches shorter at 24.5 inches. So, basically all of her weight is scrunched into her thighs and cheeks. And her chances of making it to 5 feet are very low. She is 25 percentile for weight and 10 percentile for height. She is doing great developmentally and the plan is to keep her off of dairy until at least one year and on reflux medicine until at least 9 months.

In case you're interested, at 6 months...
Ian: 18 lbs 8 oz, 28 1/4 inches
Lila: 15 lbs 6 oz, 26 1/4 inches
Cara: 14 lbs 14 oz, 24.5 inches

Lila had her 3 year check two weeks ago and she weighed 26 lbs (yay!) and was 35 inches tall. That puts her at 10 percentile for height and 7 percentile for weight. The dr said, "Well she's obviously VERY petite, but at least she's on the charts!" That's all I was hoping for, so that was a success. He then asked if she was talking in sentences. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. She then talked his ear off for the entire visit. All is great with Lila as well.

In other news, a giant has invaded our house:

Actually these are Ian's new flip flops for summer!!! I ordered them online and when they came I was SURE that they would be way too big, but they fit him just fine. Size 9! Ian has a week and a half left of 6th grade and then he will be 1/3 finished with middle school. I just can't believe that is possible. He has done very well this year and has made a great transition.

Six Months Old

Cara turned 6 months old on Monday! Hard to believe she is half way to one year! She is rolling both directions now and can sit on her own for a couple of seconds, although not long enough that I'm claiming she can sit up. She loves playing in her exersaucer and with toys. She is quite good at picking toys up off of the ground and playing with them. She is very social and would be happy watching her big sister all day, I think. She has started rice cereal and a few baby foods and eats them with gusto.

Her well check is tomorrow so I'll update with height and weight.

Lila at American Girl

For Lila's birthday, Mom, Katie and I took her to American Girl for brunch and shopping. We all had a great time, although the adults definitely had just as much, if not more fun, than Lila.

On Michigan Ave after a bus went by.

Walking into the American Girl store aka little girls' mecca.

At the cafe, the babies get high chairs and their own dishes. Lila shared her cinnamon roll with her baby.

The four (five?) of us at brunch.

Lila got a candle in her dessert and we all sang Happy Birthday.

With her huge shopping bag when we were done!

We had time to kill before our train for the 'burbs left so we took a taxi to Katie's apartment. It was Lila's first taxi ride and she was very confused. She asked what the driver's name was and when we said we didn't know she started whispering. She told us that we had to be quiet because we didn't know the driver's name.

On the train back home.

Birthday Party

Lila's birthday party was on Saturday and she had a great time! She wanted a Thomas the Train theme so that's what we did.

Doing a puzzle with Aunt Katie

Opening presents

Showing off her Bitty Baby's new dress and their matching headbands.

The Thomas cake made from scratch and decorated by me. I'm proud of it so it's on the blog! :)

After blowing out THREE candles.
On Sunday, Mom, Katie and I took Lila to the American Girl cafe for birthday brunch and then shopping at the American Girl store. Mom took the pictures there so those are coming soon.
